WEEK 30: GAME OVER

The course is over, and also Lengua Inglesa IV. We, the teachers, hope you have enjoyed the subject and learnt a lot of English, and a lot about life in the UM. We wish you a nice summer and hope to see you next year in other subjects.

WEEK 29: INTELLIGENCE

This week we've been dealing with reporting results in a formal context using adverbial clauses.

• Find out an article on the Net where the results of an experience or an experiment are reported and underline all the examples related to reporting results. In addition, highlight all the adverbial clauses found and state the type of adverbial clauses used.

WEEK 28: CONNECTING WORDS

This week we've been practising academic language in texts, and linking devices.

• Find out an piece of news where an academic topic is developed on the Internet and underline all the formal expressions you can see.

• Browse the Net and find a reliable classification of linking devices and upload it to your blog.

• Tell us what you've done this week to improve your English.

WEEK 27: COMPLAINING

This week we've been practising how to complain in formal contexts, and we've been reviewing more phrasal verbs

• Browse the Net and find out charts where phrasal verbs are illustrated and upload one of them to your blog. Add more phrasal verbs from the same family.

• Find a text on the Net where a complaint is stated and underline expressions to complain.

WEEK 26: ESSAY WRITING

This week, we have been refreshing what we know about discursive essay writing.

• Browse the Net and provide links to writing labs online where essay writing can be studied.
• Explain the major difficulties you find when writing essays.

WEEK 25: UNDER THE WEATHER WITH THE WEATHER

This week we've been practising vocabulary related to the weather and weather change, and also how to interpret and compare information from charts or tables.

• Find out on the Internet 2 pieces of news about weather issues, and highlight the vocabulary related to the weather. Upload this to your blog.

• Upload 2 graphs or tables about the same issue and try to interpret and compare the info found in them.

WEEK 24: NATURAL WONDERS

This week we've been dealing with descriptive texts about natural wonders of the world.

• Browse the Net and upload a descriptive text of a well-known place, and underline all the expressions used for describing the place. Add other sentences by yourself to improve the text selected.

WEEK 23: PERSUASION

In the last weeks we've been dealing with the language of persuasion and the language of hipothesising, which are two communicative functions of the language.

• Find out expressions to express persuasion, different from the ones offered in the textbook.

• Find a text on the Internet where a hypothesis is discussed and underline the expresions for hypothesising.

WEEK 22: NARRATIVE ESSAY WRITING

This week we've been dealing with a new type of essay, the narrative  essay.

• Find out on the web 2 different links where narrative essay writing is explained and summarise the main characteristics. In which way is it different from discursive essay writing?

WEEK 21: TELLING THE TRUTH

During this week, we've been dealing with the psychological reasons for telling lies, and the ways to discover someone is lying. In addition, we've been practising emphasis in many different ways.

• Browse the Net and find sites where lies are approached. make a list of the characteristics shown by a person who lies according to these websites.

• Try to watch the film Liar, Liar and give your opinion on it.

WEEK 20: RAVE REVIEWS

During week 20, we've been working with reviews and articles among other things.

• Find a review on the Internet and comment of the structure of the review, the language used and the information included (opinion versus facts). Upload the link to your blog.

WEEK 19: DESCRIPTIVE ESSAYS

This week we've been practising how to write a descriptive essay.

• Find out on the Internet the difference descriptive, narrative and discursive essays and draw a chart in your blog.

• Browse the Net and find a sample of descriptive essay. Comment on its characteristics.

WEEK 18: WHO WE ARE

This week, we have been studying idioms with parts of our bodies and inversions.

• Find out at least 5 more expressions with body parts, and write their meaning.
• Browse the Net for websites where inversions are explained. provide their links.

WEEK 17: IN MY VIEW

This week, we have been dealing with opinions and the infinitive.

• Write your opinion about a trending topic you strongly support or condemn.
• Browse the net for links where the infinitive is explained.

WEEK 16: LANGUAGE

Dear all,
This week we start with a new subject, Lengua Inglesa IV. Indeed, it's not much different from Lengua Inglesa III, but the second part to get a complete a C1 level when you finish this academic year.
As the topic of our first unit is LANGUAGE, these are your tasks for the blog:

• Find out on the Internet a map of the languages spoken in the world, upload it,  and tell us which language you would like to learn, apart from the ones that you already speak. try to use the passive voice in your justification.
• Say which other activities have you done this week to improve your English.
